🌍 Supporting SBEE – Société Béninoise d'Energie Electrique in Defining Benin’s Electricity Network through 2040

EDF International Networks has launched a strategic project alongside SBEE to develop the master plan for Benin’s primary substations and medium-voltage (MV) distribution networks through 2040.

This initial mission laid the technical and methodological foundations of the study, with two key objectives: ensuring a coherent long-term vision for the development of the power network and sustainably strengthening SBEE’s capabilities through a comprehensive knowledge transfer program.

👏 Our experts worked closely with SBEE engineers to familiarize them with the tools and methodologies that will be used throughout the project, while also initiating the first operational activities related to network data collection and analysis.

👉 Over the next two years, the study will:
🔹 Forecast electricity demand growth through 2040;
🔹 Define the target network architecture and future substation requirements;
🔹 Identify priority investments and establish an implementation roadmap;
🔹 Support investment decisions through robust technical and economic analyses.

We would like to thank the SBEE – Société Béninoise d'Energie Electrique teams for their trust, commitment, and strong engagement in this collaborative initiative, which will contribute to supporting the long-term development of Benin’s power system.

☀️ ⚡ Are Power Grids Ready for the World of Tomorrow ? 🌏

With heatwaves becoming more frequent, the rapid growth of renewable energy, increasing electrification across sectors, and new industrial demands, power distribution networks are facing mounting pressure and unprecedented challenges.

The energy transition is not solely based on the development of low-carbon electricity generation. It also requires a profound transformation of power grids to make them more flexible, resilient, and intelligent in addressing new operational challenges.

This transformation relies in particular on:
➡️ The increasing integration of renewable energy sources
➡️ Maintaining a high level of power quality and supply reliability
➡️ Anticipating and managing the impacts of extreme weather events
➡️ Leveraging data to optimize the operation and maintenance of infrastructure

At EDF International Networks, we support distribution system operators in navigating these transformations by sharing the expertise gained across the EDF Group and through numerous international projects.

More than ever, investing in power grids is a fundamental prerequisite for a successful energy transition.

🌍 ⚡ Building the Future of LV Live Working: EDF International Networks Supporting RedalOfficiel’s Capability Development

As part of its commitment to operational excellence and intervention safety, Redal is continuing to develop its Low Voltage Live Working (LVLW / TST BT) expertise, with the objective of strengthening competencies, updating standards and procedures, and preparing its teams for the future challenges of the power network.

To support this initiative, EDF International Networks conducted an audit of REDAL’s LV live working practices and organization. Discussions with operational teams and on-site observations highlighted the many existing strengths, as well as key actions to support the sustainable development of the LV live working programme.

📅 Next step in September: training future trainers and LV live working coordinators to further enhance skills and continue structuring the programme together.

A sincere thank you to the REDAL teams for their warm welcome and commitment throughout this mission.

🌍 Back from the Ukraine Recovery Conference with a strengthened conviction: 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝗸𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲’𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 ou Supporting the reconstruction and modernization of the power grid is vital for Ukraine’s country-wide resilience.

EDF International Networks was proud to take part in this event, which brought together key stakeholders involved in Ukraine’s recovery and rebuilding efforts.

During the conference we had the opportunity to engage with the entire energy ecosystem: electricity distribution companies, local authorities, industrial partners, equipment suppliers, engineering firms, and many others. All united by a common objective: rebuilding stronger, more resilient infrastructure that is fit for the challenges of tomorrow.

🔹 We also had the privilege of meeting with the teams from the Ukrainian Ministry of Energy, including the Deputy Minister, to discuss our current and future projects aimed at enhancing the operational resilience of electricity networks. These inspiring conversations echoed the priorities presented at the Energy Platform: strengthening energy security, developing more decentralized energy systems, and accelerating the transformation of Ukraine’s energy sector.

The conference also provided an opportunity to participate in the Energy Platform’s thematic sessions, as well as side events organized by DTEK and Razom We Stand, fostering valuable exchanges and practical insights on reconstruction and the energy transition.

Above all, what we will remember from this mission is the incredible energy we felt on the ground. Despite the challenges, we met determined, committed people focused on the future. Their collective drive to rebuild, innovate, and prepare for what comes next was truly inspiring.

👉 More than ever, we believe that our expertise as a distribution network operator can contribute, to this effort. And we are proud that EDF International Networks can play a part in supporting Ukraine’s path toward recovery.
